SONGS OF THE IMMIGRANT BRIDE

Music and chants interwoven with animated images describe a spiritual odyssey mirrored in a physical journey to a new land.

This film was made on 16 mm film stock, filming on a huge Neilson Hordell camera, and then transferred to 35 mm in the post production.
And again, like The Messenger, it was meant for the large screen. The drama and richness of the imagery becomes much more powerful when viewed in a cinema. As an artist, my paintings, photos and collages formed the main techniques - and by digitalising them I hoped to achieve a sense of integration.

It is a story of journey - of the human spirit - from the Old World (Middle East) to the new (Australia).
The veil, although connected to weddings and brides, really symbolises the innocence with which we take on - often the most incredible of journeys or challenges. But the journey can be far from literal.

It can be the thirsting after knowledge or achieving something that we never thought we were capable of - our own philosophical journey through life perhaps.

Songs of the Immigrant Bride
has shown in a number of International Film Festivals.

This film was supported and financed by the NSW Film Office and the Australian Film Commission.
