ECLIPSE
Beneath a full moon a volcano sleeps. Across the dark lake a boat is rowed. A strange timing of events releases creative forces to deal with the danger at hand. This dreamlike tale unfolds to reveal mysterious powers of water and moon embodied in the feminine. This third film was the most traditional (compared to The Messenger and Songs of the Immigrant Bride) as I used the process of cel overlays much more often here. And again this is the "24 frames to the second" scenario, which means an intense labour of love. I wanted to tell a mythic fairy tale - and show how the woman gained her knowledge (symbolised by the horse and the owl) on emerging from the water at that mystical time of the moon's Eclipse. She is then able to do great deeds before the moon re-emerges in the sky. |

The music for this film was very important because (again) there is no dialogue. Robert Moss won an award for music composition in this film, and he integrated my voice chants into his music. I love doing such voice work. I wanted it to add a sense of mystery and depth to the images with my voice and would like to work with other musicians in in this area if the right project gets offered. In the case of each one of my films, they would never work without the support of the small crew that often do unseen things. Russell Tagg was my cameraman and as a friend, colleague and advisor was an essential part of all of these projects. |
